Dr. Lavin and Ms. Glaser of the Who's the Boss? A Parenting Education Center have developed a national reputation for their expertise in providing to parents advice that really works. Based on the strengths of their first book "Who's the Boss? Moving Families from Conflict to Collaboration" (Collaboration Press, 2006), they were invited to write "Baby & Toddler Sleep Solutions for Dummies" (Wiley, 2007) which is now available across the entire United States as well as in Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, India, and Japan

Who's the Boss? Parenting Education Center offers programs that will help you better handle the conflicts of childhood. The parenting philosophies are based on the themes found in both books.

WHO'S THE BOSS? - The Parenting Course
The course consists of 9 weekly workshops presented in 3 units. Parents may choose to sign up for any one or all three units.
  1. BASICS OF PARENTING UNIT
    1. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS
      Learn approaches to parenting that make you much more effective. Learn what is and what is not conflict between parent and child. Learn language techniques that can transform the experience of parenting.
    2. DESCRIPTIVE PRAISE.
      Learn a new way to praise your child that will transform how your child sees their role in the world, enhances the power of what you say increasing your child's self-esteem, and enhances the power of your child to solve problems.
    3. ROLE OF PERSONALITY AND TEMPERAMENT IN PARENTING.
      Learn your child's temperament and discover how it defines how you need to parent effectively.

  2. DISCIPLINE UNIT
    1. GENERAL PRINCIPLES
      What is discipline? How to engage your child in learning and following your rules. Learning how children think helps parents engage them in learning rules. Tools that really work in family discipline.
    2. SPECIAL SITUATIONS
      How your child's age defines your discipline strategy. Managing tantrums. Making child care work.
    3. SIBLING RIVALRY
      Making you and your family comfortable with the inevitable conflicts of sibling rivalry.

    1. SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT
      Sleep all night for the whole family.
    2. TOILET MASTERY
      Clean, dry pants.
    3. FOOD FIGHTS
      How to resolve them. Peace at the family table. Relief from worry that your child is eating enough and eating well.
